Jaw Pain & TMJ Disorders

Understand & Overcome TMJ Pain

Your Role in Recovery

Healing happens fastest when you’re part of the process. Doing the exercises, adjusting habits, and knowing what triggers flare-ups can make a big difference.

When to Reach Out

If your TMJ symptoms are getting worse or lasting longer than a few weeks — pain while chewing, locking or popping, headaches — don’t wait. Early diagnosis + education + treatment = better outcomes.

What is TMJ Disorder?

TMJ disorders (TMD) happen when the joint connecting your lower jaw to your skull, or the muscles around it, aren’t working properly. Symptoms can include jaw pain, clicking or popping, difficulty opening your mouth, headaches, or restoring chewing and speaking becoming painful.

Why Education Matters

When you understand why your jaw hurts, you’re no longer guessing. Educating you on:

  • what’s causing your pain (muscles, joint, posture, stress)

  • how everyday habits influence TMJ (teeth clenching, posture, sleep)

  • what recovery feels like
gives you the tools to take control and speed healing.

Treatment Approach

A comprehensive plan typically includes:

  • Manual & hands-on therapy — to reduce tension, restore joint alignment, ease pain

  • Targeted exercises — stretching, strengthening, mobility to help your jaw move smoothly again

  • Lifestyle & habit coaching — posture, sleep, stress, chewing style

  • Home-based education — knowing what to do (and avoid) between sessions

What to Expect in Your First Visit

  1. We’ll listen: your history, when it hurts, what makes it better or worse.

  2. We’ll examine: jaw motion, muscle tightness, joint sounds, posture.

  3. We’ll educate: you’ll learn what’s actually happening, how you can help.

  4. We’ll act: manual therapy + exercises + a home-plan so you stay active in your recovery.
